After I watered Kamonti’s flowers and sat back down on my deck out back I looked over to the right at the grass in my neighbor’s back lot behind his garage adjacent to my yard. which in its heyday had been a full overflowing vegetable garden. I spent many days out back playing with the dog, watching kids play or grilling while watching the old man first tend to his soil then plant and cultivate his harvest year after year for the last 11 years. A few years ago. His garden started to get smaller and smaller until now there’s nothing left. He passed away this past summer and I suppose his wife just has someone mow the grass back there now. I feel surrounded by death yet also reminded how precious life is and the importance of cherishing every moment with yourself and people who gently love you.
